In the second quarter of the current year, South Africa's seasonally adjusted gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 0.6 percent quarter on quarter, according to the detailed statistics released by Statistics South Africa. South Africa's unadjusted GDP increased by one percent in the second quarter this year compared to the same quarter of the previous year, while the country's unadjusted GDP in the first half rose by 1.3 percent year on year.

Meanwhile, in the second quarter this year the country's manufacturing sector registered a decrease of 2.1 percent in output from the previous quarter. According to the report, manufacturing activity fell due to lower production in the food, beverages and tobacco; petroleum, chemical products, rubber and plastic products; motor vehicles, parts and accessories and other transport; and glass and non-metallic mineral products divisions.
