Recently, Baosteel Group Co., Ltd. chairman Xu Lejiang and his retinue attends 2013 International Iron and Steel Association Council special session and Executive Committee 49th meeting held in Vienna, Austria. During the meeting, Xu Lejiang successively meets with International Iron and Steel Association director-general, Nippon Steel president, JFE president and other high-level leaders. They discuss issues of common concern such as the situation and development trend of steel industry, China steel industry development, raw material trade, the cooperation between International Steel Association and China Steel Association.
More than 50 guests including global steel company chairmen and general managers and regional iron and steel presidents attend the meeting. International Steel Association invites OECD Steel Committee members to make "global steel industry overcapacity preliminary study" theme report and the delegates exchange on issues of market condition and overcapacity. Baosteel Institute for Economic Management makes "China's steel market overcapacity problem" study report and wins participants' recognition and high credit.
At the meeting, Xu Lejiang and International Steel Association executing comittee members discuss iron ore supply and demand relationship, global steel overcapacity, Steel University website reform and fees. Taking into account macroeconomic and iron and steel industry situation, Xu Lejiang recommends that this year's fee standards remains at last year's tariff level and the proposal is passed.
Xu Lejiang and International Steel Association director-general Edwin Basson discuss issues such as International Steel Association and China Steel Association's cooperation and protection of steel's portion in auto sheet market. Edwin Basson says that International Steel Association will organize a workshop before the end of this year and invite all China Steel Association members to participate in it and share members' best practice experience. In addition, International Steel Association plans to build a communication platform for the presentation of steel products' competitiveness in auto application. Xu Lejiang expresses support for International Steel Association's idea and suggests that International Steel Association's projects can be carried out combining International Steel Association and Chinese Society for Metals' respective advantages.
During the meeting, Xu Lejiang also meets with Nippon Steel president Shoji Muneoka and JFE president Tsutomu Yajima. The parties believe that today when steel industry has slowed down, the steel industry colleagues should be more open, promote exchanges and establish exchange mechanism in energy saving, environmental protection, new materials and new technologies.
After the meeting, Xu Lejiang and his retinue come to Baosteel Eastern Europe quarter located in Katowice, Poland and express cordiality to Chinese and foreign staff at the representative office. Bao Europe makes analysis and presentation on Eastern European countries' iron and steel production, market demand, downstream industries and development trend and reports on Eastern Europe representative office business development, achieved results and next step work plan. Xu Lejiang fully affirms Baosteel Europe Eastern Europe representative office's achievement. He says that Central and Eastern Europe market is a land worth cultivating and he hopes that people can persist and make new efforts.
